Is there a good way to update the display name in a Field Label in a fix script/background script?

I've been seeing some odd issues lately where 100k+ Field Label records have a blank display name after adding a few custom fields to cmdb tables. One of the symptoms I've seen is that the dictionary entries for the columns will suddenly have an empty value for the column label and it may not appear as an option to add to a list view or form.

This has also happened with some OOB fields, and I honestly have no idea why or what would cause it:

Has anyone else run into issues like this and found a good way to resolve for so many records?

Hi there,

You might want to raise a ServiceNow Support Case for this.

Hope it is not the issue... though I do remember similar behavior a few years back at a customer. One of my colleagues added a ton of multiline fields (ServiceNow mentions not to do more than 10), which caused an issue on the database. And when actually adding new fields of other types, or trying to make any changes... suddenly weird behavior appeared, amongst others blank labels.

Kind regards,

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. The custom fields added were mostly String fields with a few Reference and True/False also. Does the string field length cause any known issues similar to multiline? Several string fields were set to a 4000 character limit.

Yes with multiline its 255+. If it's 256 or 4000 doesn't matter, all the same.

Kind regards,
