Log in access for Names / Records on a Custom Table

How can we grant Service Portal login access to users stored in a custom table? The table in question was extended from the Task table, not the sys_user table, meaning users don't have user IDs. I'd prefer not to start over by creating a new table extended from sys_user. If there’s a possible workaround, I'd appreciate guidance on how to proceed.

User must need userid in sys user table.
