Make few catalog items visible to users with specified roles on the portal- Using ACL's

Hello,
I need few Catalog items visible to a certain user with a specific role- For this I have used User Criteria.

But my doubt is, can a catalog item visibility be restricted to a certain user using ACL's rather than User Criteria.

Please suggest the process if this can be implemented using ACL's
