Manager Approvals in case of Sick Leave

Hi Team, I was wondering how can we handle approvals in case of sick leaves or unplanned leaves. I know delegation works, but this is when it is a planned leave. Has any one faced this scenario?

Thanks
Johnny

This is more a process issue than it is a technical issue. Group approvals are the obvious choice for most scenarios.

From a technical point of view there are 'no' limits, you could eg auto-delegate based on OOO status. Or you can just have an admin override, make sure to get a manual approval for audit purposes

Hi @JohnnySnow

Under HR service Delivery , there is a process : Absence Management .

Absence management is the process of tracking and minimizing employee absences to maintain productivity. This involves using policies and tools to track types of employee leave, such as sick leave, vacations, and other time off, to help minimize workplace disruption and maintain productivity.

Refer: https://www.servicenow.com/products/hr-service-delivery/what-is-absence-management.html#:~:text=Abse....

Apart from that  Flow Designer  can be used to automate manager notifications and approvals, integrating with HR Service Delivery (HRSD) for compliance, and setting up dynamic routing for urgent requests.

Hi @JohnnySnow

As stated from @lauri457 , this is more a process than a technical solution where there could be several requirement from approvers stakeholders, as some might to what to have their approvals delegated - others might  want to have them wait.

If my answer has helped with your question, please mark my answer as the accepted solution and give a thumbs up.

Hello @JohnnySnow ,

To be honest I'd simply press for the company to make it mandatory to add delegates bcoz to have a working setup you'd need to know that the user is on leave and your approval flow could check that and route the approval to someone else.

Also, combining delegation for planned leaves with escalation or group based approvals for unplanned absences usually covers both scenarios.

And it ensures that requests don’t get blocked and business continuity is maintained.

If my response helped mark as helpful and accept the solution.
