Hi All,

We have new requirement to add below mentioned additional middleware components to ServiceNow.

1. Confluent Kafka

2. solace systems

3. infosphere DataStage

etc.

can we discover middleware components in ServiceNow if yest please provide the suggestion.

To confirm if the middleware components listed are out-of-the-box (OOTB) supported by ServiceNow Discovery, you can refer to the ServiceNow product documentation.

To discover the listed middleware components using ServiceNow Discovery, you will need to customize the patterns and process classification. Here are the high-level steps to discover middleware components using ServiceNow Discovery:

  1. Identify the patterns for the middleware components you want to discover. A pattern is a set of instructions that ServiceNow Discovery uses to identify a specific software or device. You can create custom patterns or modify existing ones to fit your specific environment.

  2. Create or modify the process classification rules to classify the discovered processes correctly. A process classification rule is a set of conditions that ServiceNow Discovery uses to determine the type of process that is running on a device.

  3. Run the discovery process to discover the middleware components. ServiceNow Discovery can use various protocols to discover devices, including SNMP, WMI, SSH, and others.

  4. Validate the discovered middleware components in the CMDB. The CMDB (Configuration Management Database) is a database that stores information about all the components in your IT environment, including software, hardware, and services

Yes, it is possible to discover middleware components in ServiceNow.

For Confluent Kafka and Solace Systems, you can use ServiceNow's Discovery application to scan your network and discover the middleware components. Once discovered, you can create Configuration Items (CIs) for them and manage their lifecycle within ServiceNow.

For InfoSphere DataStage, ServiceNow's Discovery application may not be able to discover it out of the box. In this case, you may need to use a custom probe or a third-party integration to discover the DataStage instances and create CIs for them in ServiceNow.

You can also consider using Service Mapping, which is a separate application in ServiceNow that can help you discover and map your IT infrastructure, including middleware components. Service Mapping uses a combination of automated discovery techniques and manual input to build a comprehensive map of your IT environment, which can be used for change management, incident response, and other IT processes.

I recommend consulting with your ServiceNow SME or ServiceNow partner ITOM architect  to determine the best approach for discovering and managing your middleware components in ServiceNow.

Thanks for the update.

below is the middleware components, could you please confirm those are ServiceNow oob and discovery work for all and we needs to do customization on patterns and process classification to discover components.

•    Confluent Kafka
•    Confluent Kafka for ELK
•    Solace Systems
•    Realtime Data Replication
•    InfoSphere DataStage
•    SAP BusObj Enterprise Prem
•    SAP BusObj Professional Concurrent

Please provide the steps or ServiceNow documents for middleware components discovery.

Hello ,

We are planning to discover Solace middleware systems , were you able to discover these devices ? can you give me some insights around how you did it ?
