Model Name and Model Number

I’m seeing something odd in hardware asset table and wondered if it had to do because Name and Model Number do not match.  Model is showing up as both “EliteBook 830 G5” and “EliteBook 830 G5 Notebook PC 13"” in my asset table (see below).

Usually I have Name and Model Number match.  What creates Model in hardware asset table?  When creating model, should Name and Model Number match?

Hi Cindy

Couple of things

Normally I expect to see a Model field such as "HP EliteBook 830 G5" and an Asset tag field such as "P1000479" and they are combined in a "Display Name" field such to "P1000479 - HP EliteBook 830 G5".

Model can come from a creation if a CMDB record is created with a valid model category then an asset record gets generated etc. If you have a transform map that is adding CI's some of the model description vary and if you haven't got it set right it creates similar records. If they are valid model category the model is created etc. You can also see transform maps adding data to the alm_hardware table directly. Again if transform is not set for the ref choice of ignore it will create if different etc.

In your example some of your labels look custom, it may just be labels but it may also be worth checking if they are custom fields. Also you have short description field in the general tab that doesn't usually appear on asset etc.

How are your records created? What is the source of them etc?

Many thanks for response.  Our records are created using System Import sets/transform map, CMDB CI creation (depending on Model Category) or Discovery.  I am new to this team so I will check transform maps and if we use custom fields.  One last question, I am thinking of changing the Product Display Name but since it is used in Service Catalog and so many laptops reference it, will it cause issue if I change it?  Thanks again.
