Multiline style for a single line string field.

I have created a string field with field length = 10 chars. ('SAP ID' field in the screenshot below).

Its being shown as multiline field on the form. But I was expecting it to be a single line style.

I tried 1 column layout, then I tried cache flush (cache.do). 

I am on Jakarta.

Can you actually enter multiline values? It shouldn't allow you.

I just tried that. It lets me enter more than 10 chars and it spans over multiple lines as well.

Strangely, it does let me enter & save more than 10 Chars. Thank you for pointing that out.
