Hello Community
I'm excited to share that I recently passed my Certified System Administrator (CSA) exam and am now starting my journey to become a ServiceNow Developer. My next goal is to prepare for and pass the Certified Application Developer (CAD) exam.
Thank you in advance for your time and any guidance you can offer.

Congratulations on completing the CSA exam! 🎉
I'm sure you enjoyed the learning journey and gained a solid understanding of the platform.
Now that you're targeting the CAD (Certified Application Developer) certification — that’s exciting!
Before you jump into CAD, I’d like to share a quick recommendation based on experience:
While CSA is more theoretical and foundational, CAD is heavily practical and scripting-focused. Even if you complete the training quickly (within a month), I’d advise not to rush into the certification exam just yet. Take the time to build your scripting skills first — it’s crucial.
🔍 What’s Required for CAD?
CAD focuses mainly on JavaScript and application development within the ServiceNow platform. To succeed, you'll need to deep dive into scripting. Here’s what helped me personally:
📘 Top JavaScript Learning Resources:
-
YouTube Series by @Chuck Tomasi
This is an excellent, beginner-friendly series that uses the PDI (Personal Developer Instance) and walks you through concepts at your own pace:

LinkedIn Learning: JavaScript Foundations by Mozilla
Though not ServiceNow-specific, this course is great for strengthening your base in JavaScript and also offers a Professional Certificate:

🛠️ Practice is Key!
There are many resources for scripting, but remember: you can't master scripting just by reading. You need real, hands-on practice.
-
Use the ServiceNow Developer Site or ServiceNow University.
-
Build apps, play around in your PDI, and experiment with client/server-side scripting.
💡 Tips to Gain Real Experience:
-
Engage actively with the ServiceNow Community
Spend at least 1–2 hours daily:-
Read posts
-
Ask questions
-
Try answering others’ queries
This will enhance your understanding and boost your confidence.
-

Congratulations for your CSA Certification !
For CAD, you need to complete Scripting in ServiceNow Fundamentals and Application Development Fundamentals On-demand or Instructor Led Training courses
On completing of courses, you will get voucher that can be redeemed and you can appear for CAD exam.
In addition to course contents and lab tasks, go through scripting and development concepts as it would help you with any ServiceNow modules that you would be working in future and also for CAD certification,
