We are trying to find solution on how to provide access to maintain hardware and software catalog items to non admin users. When tried to explore Catalog builder, inorder to edit these catalogs I was not able to as it gave "You are not authorized to edit this item" even when I am an admin. Is it not possible to edit these catalog items through catalog builder or I am missing something?
Also how else can we provide HW and SW catalog item's maintenance (adding/removing questions/choices) to non admin users.

Hey,
Those information on H/W and S/W catalog items are binded from the cmdb software/ hardware model table. So any changes you make here, will be auto updated in the catalog item.
I don't think its a good idea to break this up, as these are OOB functionality which ensure the data maintained in model tables to have same info on the catalog item.
And as far as providing access to model table, not sure how much comfortable to provide the users role to update software or hardware model table, but that is something you can enable.
Checkout below OOB hardware catalog item

Thankyou for response Aman, but it is not what I was looking for.
Let me put more information for my question. So we are aware of model- catalog item creation process and that is how these catalogs have been created. The cascading of model-catalog is on description and short description level only.
Now after 2-3yrs of usage, teams (these are model managers or Asset managers) are asking if they can have access to update choices/variables in these catalogs items (again some selective items) which I believe is not possible from Model form (which they already maintain).
Hence we were looking solutions like if catalog builder can help us here. And as much as I have found resources, it seems catalog builder cannot edit H/W S/W catalogs (published from models). Hence that is what I wanted to check.
We will anyways see how we can govern such requirements at process level.

I had the same issue, the easiest thing for me was to recreate the catalog item, this way you finalize the it withing catalog builder.
