Question about URL Type field

Hello all!!

I'm not sure how URL type fields work. I know that once locked, they display a hyperlink.

-> But would we be able to click on it and go to the path on the network? Like if we store a path to a folder, would that folder be opened once the URL field value is clicked?

-> Are there any restrictions or rules for this to work?

I'd greatly appreciate any more information anyone could provide on this field type since the documentation doesn't have much. Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

Yes, once locked URL fields become an active link.   To answer your question about network folders... they support standard internet style links. UNC (\\servername\pathname\file) are not supported at this time.

Hi Chuck! Thanks for the prompt reply. Forgive my ignorance, but when you say UNC not supported, do you mean that URL to a folder location inside the network is not supported, but only general internet links like google.com etc are supported?

Sorry for the confusion Veena.

Yes, internet addresses such as https://www.google.com, http://my.site.org, and so on, are fully supported by the URL field.

Network paths often of the notation H:\DOCS, or \\SERVER1\USERS\CHUCK\DOCS, are not supported.

Thanks you so much Chuck for the clarification. One last question. I understand it isn't possible with the URL type fields, but is there any other way in ServiceNow to achieve this? This as in - clicking on a path and having us taken to the folder?
