Reference field data is not populating when a new record is inserted?

Hi All,

I have parent child relationship in a table where one field 'parent' refer to the same table for the parent value.

When i am creating a new record by filling the 'parent' value, it doesn't save the field value. I have to again fill the field value and update.

I have not written any business rules, client scripts & UI Policies. What can be the reason for such behavior?

 WHEN I DOUBLE CLICK ON THE FIELD FROM LIST VIEW, I AM GETTING 'Field does not exist for this record'

Is your parent field a dot-walked field?
