Reporting - Show Field for Year Created

I have a request to pull a year in reporting.

They want to just show the year but not the full date under a field we have called "Date Reported".

I know you can filter in reports by the date. However, they want a different solution than this.

I was thinking of creating a new field called Year Reported and then create some script to pull the year out of the field. Would this work?

Does anyone have any suggestions that would work for this purpose?

If it's a OOTB reporting module then you need to add the new custom field to have the year as a field. if you are using PA then you can extract the year from the date.
