Requested By field ask in RITM form

Hi everyone,

I have a query from my client regarding the availability of a "Requested By" field on the RITM form.

As per my understanding, there is no dedicated field called "Requested By" on the RITM. Instead, we have the "Opened By" field, which serves a similar purpose.

For example, when a user creates a request on behalf of another user, the RITM gets generated with the "Opened By" field populated with the name of the person who actually submitted the request.

In such cases, the requester is the person for whom the request is raised, while the "Opened By" field reflects who initiated it.

Could you please confirm if this understanding is correct and there is any OOB requested by field, or if there is any alternative way to capture the "Requested By" information on the RITM form?

Hi @dhruvsinghp

Out-of-the-box (OOB), there is no dedicated "Requested By" field on the Requested Item (RITM) form. Instead, you rely on "Requested For" fields.

Requested For: This is the dedicated field that identifies the person for whom the items are actually being requested (the end-user or client).

In all my client projects , we have used Requested For and its working fine.

Hi @dhruvsinghp  ,

Yes, that's correct. Out of the box, the Opened By field on the RITM captures the user who submitted/logged the request. The Requested For field identifies the user for whom the request was raised. There is no separate OOB field called "Logged By" or "Requested By" on the RITM. If you need to track additional information beyond Opened By, a custom field would be required.

Hi @dhruvsinghp ,

Your understanding is correct. Out of the box, there is no dedicated "Requested By" field on the Requested Item (RITM) table.

On the RITM, the commonly used OOB fields are:

  • Requested For – The user for whom the request is being raised.
  • Opened By – The user who actually created/submitted the request.

For example, if User A submits a catalog request on behalf of User B:

  • Opened By = User A
  • Requested For = User B

In this scenario, the Opened By field effectively represents the person who initiated the request, which is often what customers refer to as "Requested By."

If your client specifically requires a separate Requested By field for reporting or business purposes, it would need to be added as a custom field and populated through business logic. However, from an OOB perspective, Opened By already captures who submitted the request.

So, there is no OOB "Requested By" field on the RITM, and using Opened By for that purpose is the standard approach.

Thanks for the detailed input.

Suppose i wanted to know that who has raised the request  and also who has logged in the request ticket.

So these two things are managed by "Opened by" field only, right?

Is that any separate field there in Out of Box or need to create custom field for who logged in the ticket?

Hi @dhruvsinghp  ,
