SMS alternate field

We are trying to configure Email notifications that can be used for Email and SMS notifications, depending on the device selected or the device that the use subscribed to.

Some questions we have are:
1. What is the logic on the SMS alternate field, if you have the normal Message or Template selected
2. Why if the SMS is a shorter message, is it double the size of the message
3. Can we even do this, or do we have to setup a notification per type, 1 for email and 1 for SMS

First, make sure you're running the latest Fall release--before fall, there are a lot of bugs.

The SMS alternate message will get sent out if the device type (set in the user's notification preferences) is something other than "email."

The entry box for the sms alternate message may be by default bigger, but it's simply there for text entry.

Note that by design, only ONE message gets sent for any given event. So if you have an "incident inserted" event, and someone has that notification (with or without filters) going to his mobile device, he will not get an additional email.
