Hi Community

I need to set the assignment group based on cmdb_ci field on the form I have disabled the OOTB assignment rule on std_change_proposal which was setting it to change management but now I want it to set the assignment group to the cmdb_ci approval group if the cmdb_ci has it if not then the assignment group should be IT approval group.

Hi @chiragpathak

Sorry, your question is a little confusing for me.
Could you please clarify whether:

  • You want to set the cmdb_ci approval group for Standard Change approval,
    or

  • You want to set the cmdb_ci group on the Change form after the Standard Change has been raised?

Please share a screenshot so I can guide you better.

Hi @Dr Atul G- LNG

On the std_change_proposal record. I will try explaining better so when I go to propose a new standard change proposal and save it, it takes to the proposal record which is created and when I populate the cmdb_ci field on it then the assignment group should be populated as the approval group on the CI (change_control). When I modify a Standard change proposal it should populate the cmdb_ci from the existing standard change proposal so this is what I am trying to achieve

Hi @chiragpathak

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I tried the same in my PDI and understand that you want to populate the assignment group in the Change Proposal itself based on the CI, right?
I hope my understanding is correct.

If that’s the case, I’d say you’re creating technical debt. The reason is there is an out-of-the-box Business Rule that runs at the task table level and automatically populates the assignment group based on the CI or Service Offering.

Hi @Dr Atul G- LNG

So are you telling me not to go ahead with this?
