UI Action to set value on form

Hi ,

I have UI action which executes on server side and set its value at Database level but I do not wanted it to be submitted unless clicked on save /submit button how this can be done when user click on UI action. below code not setting when i clicked on calculate button for UI action.

When user clicks the UI action is it not setting the short_description field?
