Using PDI but "last used not getting updated"

I recently lost my PDI after receiving messages that my PDI would be released on a certain date.  I was using my PDI daily.   I obtained another instance and I see the same phenomena happening again.  I am using my PDI five times a week but when I login to the SN Dev environment, my Instance status indicated I have not used it in 12 days.  Any ideas on why this would be happening to me and more importantly, on what looks like now to be the second occasion

Yes, it's infuriating right?

 

It turns out you have to log in directly from your PDI's unique URL, not via the developer portal, because that's not recognized as logging in for some reason.
