What exactly does the approver_user role grant you?

Other than granting you access to the My Approvals Module, what specifically does this role do, other than cost you money? I don't see any ACLs or anything that specifically require this role. Furthermore, if someone is an approver, and that's the only role they have, why can't they have a read only view of the record they are approving? It seems like this role wasn't fully thought out, what am I missing?

And please don't respond with a cut and paste of the vague base role description. I'm looking for a more detailed response from people in the know.

Thanks

Hi,

I just stumbled upon this old post. Just wanted to say here that you also need a license to perform e-mail approval. It may have been granted if you had an old contract but generally isn't anymore in new contracts.

Check your current Use Authorization form to be sure.

Hi,

Well...it may be vague to you, but firstly I would speak to your account representative for any consideration of the approver_user role to ensure your needs are fully met. In your contract it should list all terms out even if you chose not to go with it.

The role was designed to give some authoritative capabilities to users WITHOUT needing a full ITIL role. So this is discounted priced role since you're not needing ITIL.
