What is Task based records?

A record producer is a specific type of catalog item that allows end users to create task-based records. What is task based records means?

Thanks for the reply. You said that the record needs some task to be performed. while requesting a catalog item, the item may contain catalog tasks, then why can't we call catalog requests as task based records.

Because Record producer is only used to create task based records but we can use Catalog items for generating tasks and proving self service opportunity to user as well.

I think this is the best someone can explain it to you. Some says Record Producer is called Task based because it generates record on task inherited table which is partially true but not totally.
