Right-click the list header and select 'Personalize/Configure -> List Control'.   I'd guess that you've got the 'Omit Links' checkbox or 'Link Roles' or 'Omit Links Condition' filled out there.   Here's a wiki article explaining how list controls work.

Thank you so much Mark Stanger for the correct solution.

It sounds like in the earlier version of ServiceNow, Omit links would omit the links of reference fields, and let the first column be a link. In the latest versions (I'm in New York), it does not work this way anymore. Omit links omit all the links including the first column.

I have opened a case in /hi, and it has been confirmed that it is a normal behaviour that Omit links omit all the links...

I have created and Idea record on the Idea Portal, hoping that this business requirement will be taken into account by ServiceNow team. I invite you to vote for this idea to increase the chances to make this feature available out of the box 🙂

Let the first column still be a link when « omit links » is enabled in List control
