I have not worked in this specific use case but My recommendation is same as Jordan here.

i.e 

• Workday sends employee data to ServiceNow.
• The Scripted REST API receives the payload.
• The payload is inserted into the import staging table 
• The Transform Map maps the staging data to the target table.
• Records are created or updated in the target table based on the configured coalesce field.
