Activity Formatter showing updates to field, but field value is empty

Hi Team,
Can someone please help me debug an issue wherein updates to a particular field in a record are showing up in the activity formatter but the field is empty on the form as well as in the XML (, i.e. server side value is also empty)?
Any idea why such a thing would happen?
