How to add background Image to the esc portal menu item?

I have added a new topic, and to that topic, I have included a few catalog items. This is working fine. However, I need to add a background color/image to the menu items, similar to what is shown in the images below.
How i can achieve this ?

That menu item is not taxonomy .

If you have a new page that you're directing to from the new menu item, you can add the Content Experience banner widget on that page.

You can target the content by publishing it the same way you usually target content on the homepage.
