Platform Application and Platform Host Relationships in APM

Hi, I'm working on getting our master application list into APM. I know I can relate applications with the platform, for example: ServiceNow is the Platform Host and APM is the Platform Application.  I can do this for most of the applications we have when there is Platform Host scenario.

But what is the suggested way to do Microsoft products, example: Exhange, Teams, SCOM, Azure DevOps, BitLocker, SharePoint, etc.   Is it best to put Microsoft as the Platform Host and all these others as Platform Applications with Platform Host = Microsoft?

Or is putting Microsoft as the Platform Host to general?  Or should it be broken down to Azure things and Microsoft things?

Also, how do you suggest putting in Teams applications? (Ex: Workfront for Teams).  We have Workfront as an application already but looking to know how to list out the Team Workfront application. Do they get associated with Microsoft as the Platform Host? Do you need to make a designation in the application name to include the word "Teams"?

Any suggestions or advise on these 2 issues would greatly be appreciated.  If there are links/videos that explains things like this please provide.

Thanx,

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Microsoft is the publisher of the software and not a platform. However, Sharepoint or even better, Office 365 is a platform.  The best example of Platform/Platform Host is ServiceNow itself.  ServiceNow is a platform that has 100+ Applications, Platform Applications, running on it.   APM, Change, HRSD, Software Asset Management are all example of thso Platform Apps.   the Application Families are ServiceNow SPM, ServiceNow ITSM, ServiceNow HR, and ServiceNow ITAM.  The same applies for SAP and many others.

Azure itself could be modeled as a Platform.  Exchange is a Shared Service style Business Application.

Office 365 could be modeled as a Platform and then Teams, SHarePoint, OneDrive and even the end user computing elements such as Word/Excel/PowerPoint SaaS version could all be modeled as Platform Apps.  If your installations of SharePoint and Exchange were all on-premise then they would be Shared Services style business Application and they all are except there is no Office 365 as a underlying platform.

Check out the attached examples.

hope this helps,

Mark

Thanx for the explanation and pptx.  Can you also provide suggestions on my 2nd question about noting Teams applications?

Restated here:  Also, how do you suggest putting in Teams applications? (Ex: Workfront for Teams).  We have Workfront as an application already but looking to know how to list out the Team Workfront application. Do they get associated with Microsoft as the Platform Host? Do you need to make a designation in the application name to include the word "Teams"?

Hi Sharon,

Workfront for Teams is a separate application and "connects" to Teams which is in turn a Business APplication itself and a Platform APp of Microsoft 365.  To create the connection, i suggest you look at APM's Digital Interface/Integration Management.
