Transition Governance and Decommissioning

Hello:

Does anyone know if Enterprise Architecture gets involved in the process of decommissioning an application? It appears to me that it does a great job of cataloging and managing an organization's application estate, but seems to pull up short when it comes to the actual application transition and decommissioning process. Meaning once an application is designated for decommissioning, does EA handle any of the tasks related to archiving application information, granting access to the information after the application is decommissioned, or disposing the information after it is deemed no longer needed?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi,

ServiceNow EA does support de-commission orchestration with seamless integration with Project/Demand management. The Business Application record holds the disponsition decision using "Planned Disposition" as well as there is out of Business Application Lifecycle Management (BALM) "Retire a Business Application" service catalog request. When this request gets approved, respective Project or demand get created for further orchastration. Below document article provides details information

The Project template provides total control to define decomission process by including all required tasks into template.

Hi Yogesh:

Thank you — this is very helpful. I understand now that ServiceNow EA/BALM supports the disposition decision, service request, approval flow, and creation of a Project or Demand to orchestrate the retirement process.

My question is really focused on the execution layer within that decommissioning project — specifically the capture, preservation, post-retirement access, and eventual disposition of the actual application information such as records, documents, reports, screens, metadata, and audit history.

Would you happen to know who the right ServiceNow product manager or product owner would be to speak with about this area? I would appreciate the opportunity to better understand how ServiceNow views this part of the application retirement lifecycle.

Thanks,

Joe

@Doron Orbach from Enterprise Architecture and @Sandeep V1 from SPM would be point of contact.
