We heard form them that the form layout of the journal fields might cause some issues

It will look for a primary field which defaults to the OOB comments field but that one might not exist on your form.

This problem can be worked around by adding a "glide.ui.[TABLENAME]_activity.primary_fields" Property that contains a comma separated list of the fields present in the order you want them to display. Whichever field is listed first will be the one that displays.
