In general, a software model contains of the following main attributes (Publisher, Product, Edition, Version). These are the same products a discovery model can be identified. A discovery map is a managed object by the content team to provide details about the model itself based on the mention attributes, the DMAP is also responsible for downgrade rights linked with the software model.

 

A DMAP can be selected on software model level, but is not part if the discovery model. The mentioned field "Software Model" is no longer used by SAM Pro during the reconcile, it's outdated and will be deprecated. I know the model field is updated and matches in many cases the expected model, but not always. The reconcile will ise the linked DMAP or the plain main attributes to link the software model with all matching discovery models. Please use the Related link "Show matching discovery models" to get insights into all models used during the recon for this model.
