What is the factor for an Engagement with Third-Party to become Active after Onboarding?

Dear Experts,

I would like to understand how would an Engagement, the status changed from Onboarding to Active? Or how will the engagement become Active? When after requesting a due diligent request and the request has been closed. It still remain as Onboarding rather than active. What is the factor for an engagement to become Active, do we manually change the status?

Hi @ChuanYanF

The status change from "Onboarding" to "Active" is almost always automated by a workflow, not a manual change.

The status will become "Active" when a predefined set of conditions are met within its associated workflow. This is a deliberate design choice by ServiceNow to ensure that all necessary prerequisites for a new vendor or employee are completed before they are considered "Active" and able to operate.

Hi Rafael, do u know what are the conditions to be active? Because currently I have tried to onboard a new engagement but rather than active it shows onboarding

@ChuanYanF In out‑of‑the‑box TPRM, an Engagement moves from Onboarding → Active when the workflow’s prerequisites are met. Check if Contract risk (when enabled) is completed/approved or a contract is in place.
Many implementations require the Contract Risk step (or a valid contract) before the engagement becomes Active.

Hi Anand,
My current workflow is skipping the contract process which does not require a contract, so I was wondering do we change the status to active ourselves?
