This blog aims to be a deep dive blog on the features for Talent Development, formerly known as Employee Growth and Development (EGD), in the August 2024 Store and Xanadu family release. Some of the features may have dependency on a family release. This will be called out in the feature section.
The Xanadu release introduces several major and minor feature updates to enhance career development, workforce development, and employee engagement. These new features provide tools for organizations to future-proof their workforce. The features highlighted require a subscription to the Talent Development license.
Content
- Persona: Organizational leaders such as director and VP+ levels
- Activation: Install the Leader Hub plugin from the ServiceNow Store.
- Dependency: Talent Development Core, Employee Center Pro, and Skills Intelligence is highly recommended. Please note additional application dependencies listed in the Store.
Leader Hub is a new landing page in Employee Center Pro for leaders that gives organizational leaders insight into critical talent development data. It provides visibility into the organization’s skill gaps, developmental activities, and overall workforce engagement. It helps leaders future-proof their workforce by identifying the need for reskilling and upskilling.
Leader Hub consists of three primary tabs and one optional tab:
- At a Glance: This landing page provides a snapshot of the organization’s talent development status, including skill gaps, employee engagement in growth activities, and team competencies.
- Org Talent: Allows leaders to drill down and view talent data at different levels within the organization, providing an understanding of strengths and weaknesses.
- Org Skills: Enables leaders to track and manage skill gaps within the organization, helping them to hold managers accountable for workforce development.
- Org Supporter View (optional tab): Leaders can designate supporters to view and manage workforce insights on their behalf, ensuring continuous oversight even when priorities shift.
Opportunity Marketplace Enhancements
- Persona: Employees, Opportunity owners
- Activation: Install the Opportunity Marketplace plugin from the ServiceNow Store.
- Dependency: Talent Development Core, Hiring Core. Please note the additional application dependencies listed in the Store.
The August 2024 Store release for Opportunity Marketplace expands beyond traditional internal jobs and allows organizations to define and fill additional short-term work activities like gigs, projects and volunteer opportunities using internal talent.
Opportunity owners can manage opportunities for long-term or short-term projects that are available at their company. Employees can find and track opportunities while managers can post opportunities for projects, gigs, volunteer opportunities, and internal jobs. Employees can also view personalized recommendations for these opportunities based on your current roles, aspirations, and skills.
Using internal resources reduces the time and cost of external recruitment, increases employee engagement, and helps employees develop new skills.
Skills Intelligence Enhancements
The Skills Intelligence app also had a few enhancements in the August 2024 Store release. These included the following:
- Skills Intelligence Workspace - Skills import playbook experience
Persona: Skills Admin
Activation: Install the Skills Intelligence, Skills Intelligence Workspace, and Skills Industry data plugins
Dependency: Talent Development Core. Please note additional application dependencies listed in the Store.
The Skills Admin can now import custom skills with a guided step-by-step playbook experience, improving skills adoption and making custom skills easier to manage.
- Skills Intelligence - Specialty Role Selection
Persona: Employees
Activation: Install the Skills Intelligence, Skills Intelligence Workspace, Skills Industry data plugins, and Proactive Prompt plugins
Dependency: Talent Development Core. Please note additional application dependencies listed in the Store.
Employees can now add a specialty role to their Career Profile, allowing for more personalized career recommendations and improved skill tracking. A specialty role is defined as a secondary role that is selected in addition to the primary role (primary role is determined by job profile, specialty role is determined by the employee). For example, an employee may have a primary role as a Software Engineer and a specialty role as a Scrum Master.
The purpose of a specialty role is to allow the employee to further personalize their role and skill data. Specialty roles come from the company job architecture and have associated skills like other roles. When a specialty role is added, the employee will add the associated skills from that specialty role to their profile, which will enhance the recommendations they receive to advance adjacent skills and improve their career progression through the additional skills added.
- Skills Intelligence - Employee Skill Updates
Persona: Employees
Activation: Install the Skills Intelligence, Skills Intelligence Workspace, and Skills Industry data plugins
Dependency: Talent Development Core. Please note additional application dependencies listed in the Store.
Employees can directly add skills to their Career Profile, making it easier to customize and track their career progression. In the previous release, employee could only add additional skills when a resume or LinkedIn data was uploaded.
