First Impressions of the Catalog Builder

When I saw this feature on the Quebec release, I was very excited because visualizing request forms and collecting requirements for the LoB is not always very easy. I have used different formats to create my own templates to gather requirements for the creation of different catalog items for the Service Portal – from Powerpoint templates to Word Files, Excel templates and different Forms. This for me as an HR Implementation Specialist is a game changer.

I have been reading about this new Catalog Builder and playing around with it. Here are my first three impressions of it:

1. The interface is very easy to navigate and simple to use, without even following the guides and videos, I managed to create and deploy simple templates
2. The video tutorials are simple, straight to the point and easy to follow for any user
3. This will certainly bridge the gap between implementors, catalog administrators, LoB especially HR Managers, Administrators and the different operations teams.

Where is the "script" section for a Record Producer in Catalog Builder?

Hi Ariel,

I could not find it and I do not expect it to be available there. Catalog Builder is only for the basic no-code stuff which should be maintained by service / business owners. If the script is required, then it needs to be added by catalog admin or sys admin. Same applies if you would need a Catalog Client Script for the record producer or other advanced configuration (e.g. advanced reference qualifier).

What I would like to see is that within the Catalog Builder Template for Record Producers, we should be able to specify a script that should execute for the producers created out of that template as there is often something needed to happen behind the scenes.

I could also make great use of this product as a person responsible for the data storage in our company. We’ve got several databases to buy. They’re a complete mess, and I need to clean that up.

Our company needs to have a good connection because we mainly work with texts and have to have good analytical skills.
