Welcome to the ServiceNow Community, your gateway to enthusiastic individuals, passionate about technology and our platform.
We get a lot of individuals asking about how to level up through the Community. Some members want the option to write blogs directly on Community, some want to achieve higher status, and some want to explore more opportunities to learn. That’s why we’ve put together this blog, showcasing how you can climb the Community ladder in your own way.
Step 1: Find Your Space
Take the time to explore the Community and find the space (or spaces) that best suit your interests. This is your time to begin building your personal brand and share your knowledge (or gain it) in the space that reflects you best. Becoming more involved in the ServiceNow Community can only do good things for your visibility, career, and opportunities.
You can start with our product hubs, each offering insights and resources tailored to specific products and solutions. Or you could dive into our discussion spaces, where like-minded individuals gather to share their expertise, exchange ideas, and forge valuable connections.
Here’s just a taste of some of the things you can start doing once you find that space, to transition from just observing into an interactive and collaborative member of our Community.
- Read and absorb content.
- Create discussion posts on Community.
- Mark posts you enjoyed as helpful.
- Ask some questions!
- Provide answers to questions if you think you can help a peer.
- See a question and don’t know the answer? Do your own research! Start searching for accepted solutions and share them if you find one.
And hey, once you find your space, go ahead and subscribe to it, so that you keep up with posts, even when you aren’t surfing the Community. That way, you keep track of everything going on in your area of expertise.
Step 2: Create Your Own Path
In the realm of Community content creation, the sky's the limit for those with the passion and determination to make their mark. Whether you prefer video production, demo creation, blog writing, and more, there's a way for your voice to shine. Embrace your creativity, unleash your expertise, and watch as your influence grows with each piece of content you share.
Start a website, a YouTube channel, or a podcast, with your realm of the ServiceNow Platform as the topical key. Write a consistent blog on LinkedIn, share demos in our product hubs, or attend meetups and network with others ServiceNow enthusiasts!
Remember, there is no right way to move forward — so don't be afraid to let your imagination run wild. We at the Community reward persistence and commitment to quality Community content. Find ways to help others with the content you create, and you’ll be surprised with how quickly you will move through the Community and create connection.
On the ServiceNow Community, any registered member can create discussion posts and write to their heart's content. So, if you want to begin writing blog-type content, just go ahead and get started! There is no need to wait until you get access to our certified blogs. Additionally, if you are creating ServiceNow as-a-topic YouTube videos, be sure to embed your videos into Community posts so more people can discover them!
Now, if you are a persistent blog writer, and your content is emblematic of the style and credibility that we push out on our Community blogs, you can potentially apply for a Thought Leader role. This role is reserved for people with an established presence somewhere else (like LinkedIn) who would like to start blogging on Community. Applying to this role means you are already an established thought leader off the Community. If you are interested in pursuing this route, please reach out to community@servicenow.com.
Step 3: Reach for the Stars
The journey doesn’t end with content creation and Community engagement. We want you to keep developing and interacting with your peers. For those who crave continued growth and recognition, our expert programs offer the perfect avenue.
Whether you're a Rising Star on the horizon or aspiring to achieve ServiceNow MVP expert status, there's a path for you to carve out among the Community's brightest stars.
For those who want to get involved with our programs, but don't yet consider themselves ready for the MVP role, the Rising Star program is the perfect place to get started. The submission process is open July 1-31 and December 1-31st each calendar year. Either a fellow Community member can nominate another member, you can nominate yourself, or the Community team can select you.
Take Ola Norlander for example. Ola first came across ServiceNow with his previous employer, where he was tasked with finding a replacement for his company’s legacy ITSM tool. They decided to implement ServiceNow, but, right when the implementation began, Ola went on paternity leave.
Upon returning, Ola felt he lacked the knowledge and expertise that his co-workers had acquired for the Platform. So, he dove into the ServiceNow Community. His reading and absorbing of content quickly resulted in a passion for the platform, and he made it his mission to respond to at least one question a day, climbing the Community leaderboards.
After two years of engagement and developing the skills necessary with the platform, Ola was nominated to become a ServiceNow Rising Star, a title he still holds to this day. He continues to work towards becoming better at the Platform each day.
Strive to do what Ola has done, in your own way. Ola loves to solve problems, and he channeled that passion into the Community. Find what you are passionate about and pursue it within our Community spaces. That is the key to climbing the ladder.
Hopefully, this serves as the necessary instructions and inspiration to continue to level up in the Community and climb that ladder.
If there are any questions, be sure to comment on this blog! We can answer you and provide guidance regarding how you specifically can enhance your Community journey.
