What's New in ITOM Visibility for Yokohama?

When the Port of Yokohama opened in 1859, it transformed Japan's relationship with the world. As the island nation's first major international trading port, Yokohama became a gateway that connected previously isolated Japanese markets to global commerce. Today, it stands as Japan's largest seaport—a vast, technologically advanced hub that handles thousands of ships annually, scanning, tracking, and routing cargo with remarkable precision. Like this historic port, ServiceNow's Yokohama release provides powerful new capabilities to map, connect, and secure your digital enterprise landscape, even in its most remote corners.

Charting New Waters with ITOM Visibility

The Yokohama release delivers three major GA features for ITOM Visibility that, like specialized equipment in a modern port, help you discover, connect, and catalog your digital assets with unprecedented precision:

File-based Discovery for Agent-Client Collector

Just as specialized cargo scanners can detect contents within unmarked containers that might otherwise slip through, File-based Discovery brings Agent-Client Collector closer to parity with traditional Discovery by uncovering files and libraries that aren't registered with operating systems.  And Agent Client Collector can pick up systems that aren't always on the network  This capability is particularly valuable for identifying potential vulnerabilities like unpatched Log4j libraries or tracking custom software in specialized environments.

Agent-Client Collectors are frequently deployed in edge cases where typical IT discovery may not penetrate—like manufacturing PCs not connected to the corporate LAN. These isolated systems are prime targets for ransomware. With File-based Discovery, enterprises can uncover old files or libraries on computers that wouldn't otherwise report them, allowing security teams to take preventive action before these systems are compromised.

Mid-less Configuration for Agent-Client Collector

Like direct shipping routes that bypass intermediary ports, Mid-less Configuration for Agent-Client Collector enables endpoints to connect directly to ServiceNow via ITOM Cloud Services, without requiring a MID server. This creates more efficient connections for remote workers, devices in DMZs, and other systems that may not have consistent access to your internal network.

This innovation is particularly valuable for organizations implementing Zero Trust architectures, those resistant to creating firewall exceptions, or environments that require complex mechanisms to connect internal data to SaaS platforms like ServiceNow. By eliminating the MID server requirement, this feature not only improves data quality through increased automation but also reduces infrastructure costs.

New AWS Discovery Patterns

Similar to new shipping lanes and specialized docking facilities that accommodate vessels previously unable to access a port, 27 new AWS patterns expand ServiceNow's ability to discover and map cloud resources. Developed using the GenAI content factory, these patterns cover critical AWS services including IAM roles, users, key management service, MQ, Glacier, SageMaker, and Secrets.

By providing deeper visibility into AWS resources, these GenAI created patterns help organizations improve reliability, optimize costs, and enhance their security posture. The patterns are disabled by default, allowing administrators to selectively enable and publish them based on their specific environment requirements.

On the Horizon: Innovation Lab Previews

The Yokohama release also introduces several Innovation Lab features that preview significant capabilities coming in future releases.

Setting Sail with Yokohama

Like the Port of Yokohama's continuous expansion over its 165-year history, ServiceNow's ITOM Visibility capabilities continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of enterprise IT. The Yokohama release extends your visibility into previously uncharted territories of your digital environment, ensuring you can navigate your IT landscape with confidence and security.

Whether you're managing complex manufacturing environments, implementing Zero Trust architectures, or expanding your cloud footprint, these new capabilities help you maintain a comprehensive map of your digital assets—keeping your enterprise secure and efficient in increasingly complex waters.
