Below are step-by-step instructions to create a basic BSM map in a Vancouver instance:

Step 1: Identify CI Relationships
Before creating the BSM map, it's crucial to identify and understand the relationships between CIs in your CMDB. ServiceNow uses relationships such as "Depends on," "Runs on," etc. Determine which relationships are relevant to your business services.

Step 2: Configure CI Relationships
Make sure that the CI relationships are configured correctly in the CMDB. Verify that the appropriate relationship records exist in the cmdb_rel_ci table.

Step 3: Create a Business Service

Go to Service Portfolio > Business Services.
Create a new Business Service record for the top-level service you want to visualize in the BSM map. Provide relevant details like name, description, etc.
Step 4: Configure Business Service Relationships

Open the Business Service record you created.
In the related links section, go to Configuration Items.
Add the Configuration Items that are part of this business service.
Step 5: Create a Business Service Map

Go to Self-Service > Service Maps.
Create a new record and associate it with the Business Service you created.
In the Configuration Items related list, add the CIs you want to include in the map.
Step 6: Configure Map Relationships

Open the Business Service Map record.
In the "Map Configuration" related list, configure the relationships between CIs. Specify the source and target CIs and the type of relationship.
Step 7: View the Business Service Map
Navigate to the Business Service Map record you created and click on the "View Map" related link. This will display the BSM map with the configured relationships.

Step 8: Explore Dependency Impact
You can now explore the dependency impact by clicking on CIs in the map. This will show relationships and dependencies, helping you understand the impact on the top-level business service.

Remember that this is a simplified guide, and your specific CMDB configuration may require additional customization. Ensure that relationships are well-defined, and the CMDB data accurately reflects the dependencies between CIs.
