Cloud Discovery Setup with Azure

Hello Team,

I am setting up the Azure cloud discovery in SNOW, It's only for cloud devices discovery. Could you please suggest what all are the prerequisites and steps to be followed.

- Do I need to setup a dedicated MID server on the Azure cloud?

- Do I need to active any additional plugins as default plugins were already active for ITOM discovery modules

- Does it required any additional licensing cost as I don't need CMP module for now, I only need to discover all the Azure cloud devices through the current SNOW discovery setup which I am using for Infrastructure discovery. Does the current setup capable enough to perform the cloud discovery.

- Does any subscriptions required, or it can be directly performed from the discovery schedules

- Do I need to setup any API based discovery

Thank you.

Hi,

- Do I need to setup a dedicated MID server on the Azure cloud?

You need MID Server for sure yes with proper application support and capabilities for Azure, REST,etc.

- Do I need to active any additional plugins as default plugins were already active for ITOM discovery modules

No additional plugin only Discovery is enough.

- Does it required any additional licensing cost as I don't need CMP module for now, I only need to discover all the Azure cloud devices through the current SNOW discovery setup which I am using for Infrastructure discovery. Does the current setup capable enough to perform the cloud discovery.

This will follow your Discovery license module. SO if you discover VMs on Azure then any virtual physical server as one license. But talk to servicenow account manager.

- Does any subscriptions required, or it can be directly performed from the discovery schedules

You need Azure Subscription and read-only rights from azure for this subscription so you can discover it.

- Do I need to setup any API based discovery: No, once you do this subscription and you have MID server then all things are handled by servicenow.

Great!! Thanks for the information.

My current MID server is performing Infrastructure level Discovery (ESX;Windows, Linux, VMs, Network Components etc.), do I need any additional setup on the new MID server dedicated for cloud discovery or to be configured with similar setup.

Any important things I missed in the above to perform this setup with successful discovery on Azure cloud?

Thanks again.

Hi,

We utilize the same mid server for the Cloud Discovery which is used for horizontal discovery.

No Additional setting. only make sure you can access azure portal from MID Server or not.

Hi,

Thanks for your inputs.

I have increases the space size of our MID servers, currently we have 5 MID servers in different data centers. So I am proceeding the setup with the existing MID server configuration.

As per the current requirement, there is 21 VMs which need to be discovered through cloud discovery. So adding the "Azure Principal under credential would be enough or any additional credential for VMs to be required.

Does any IPs based discovery applicable in this concept like we do for horizontal one.

Thank you.

HI,

First, If you only want to do VM discovery then yes your azure service principal creds are enough which will help you to discover the VMs and other resources. This will create VM record in VM Instance table and not Server tables.

Second, if you want to do OS discovery on this VMs so it creates server record in server table then you need to do IP based discovery to discovery this VMs and that is what we call OS discovery. This will give you all the details like process, CPU,Memory and software on this VM,etc.

Thanks,
