Cloud Discovery Setup with Azure

Hello Team,

I am setting up the Azure cloud discovery in SNOW, It's only for cloud devices discovery. Could you please suggest what all are the prerequisites and steps to be followed.

- Do I need to setup a dedicated MID server on the Azure cloud?

- Do I need to active any additional plugins as default plugins were already active for ITOM discovery modules

- Does it required any additional licensing cost as I don't need CMP module for now, I only need to discover all the Azure cloud devices through the current SNOW discovery setup which I am using for Infrastructure discovery. Does the current setup capable enough to perform the cloud discovery.

- Does any subscriptions required, or it can be directly performed from the discovery schedules

- Do I need to setup any API based discovery

Thank you.

Hi,

- Do I need to setup a dedicated MID server on the Azure cloud?

You need MID Server for sure yes with proper application support and capabilities for Azure, REST,etc.

- Do I need to active any additional plugins as default plugins were already active for ITOM discovery modules

No additional plugin only Discovery is enough.

- Does it required any additional licensing cost as I don't need CMP module for now, I only need to discover all the Azure cloud devices through the current SNOW discovery setup which I am using for Infrastructure discovery. Does the current setup capable enough to perform the cloud discovery.

This will follow your Discovery license module. SO if you discover VMs on Azure then any virtual physical server as one license. But talk to servicenow account manager.

- Does any subscriptions required, or it can be directly performed from the discovery schedules

You need Azure Subscription and read-only rights from azure for this subscription so you can discover it.

- Do I need to setup any API based discovery: No, once you do this subscription and you have MID server then all things are handled by servicenow.

Thanks,
Ashutosh

Hi,

Any additional ports needs to be open or 22, 135 and 161 would be primary one.

Thank you.

Hi,

For OS discovery yes, 135, 445,22,5486,5485,etc.

Hi,

Cloud discovery is current up and running and VM instances were getting detected in azure vm instance table.

May I know what all discovery features to be missed in case deep OS level discovery not being setup currently for Azure cloud VMs and to be further proceed with current existing setup. Is it missing running processes, software installation or any other important information to be captured in CMDB.

Also can I create Service Maps with the existing Azure cloud discovery setup or need deep OS level discovery to be implemented.

Thank you.

Regards,

Amit

HI,

You need deep OS discovery for Service Map as well for this VMs.

What you miss is:

1) Software details.

2) IP details

3) Application on this Servers.

4) Connection with Cluster,etc

Thanks,
Ashutosh
