cmdb_ci_disk (Hard Drive) Serial Number for Windows Computers

Good morning!

My organization is needing to obtain the hard drive (cmdb_ci_disk) serial number for Windows computers. We need this information in order to meet regulatory requirements. We were able to retrieve this information for Apple computers utilizing the JAMF Service Graph Connector, however, the SCCM Service Graph Connector does not allow for this OOB. We would have to build something very time-consuming and highly custom to obtain this data.

I did find out that ServiceNow Discovery should be able to retrieve this information, but it is beginning to look like we may not implement ServiceNow Discovery due to a lot of concerns from various parties within the organization.

My question is this.....What other integrations or Service Graph Connectors would be able to retrieve the hard drive serial number on a Windows computer OOB?

Thank you!

Good morning,

Ivanti can indeed help you retrieve the hard drive serial number for Windows computers without needing ServiceNow Discovery. To achieve this, you can leverage Ivanti’s inventory management capabilities, which can gather hardware data, including serial numbers for hard drives.

Here’s how you can implement this:

  1. Use Ivanti's inventory: Ivanti (Endpoint Manager or LANDesk) can collect hardware information, including hard drive serial numbers, from Windows computers.

  2. Schedule Import Data Source: You can use the Schedule Import Data Source in ServiceNow to import this hardware data into ServiceNow on a regular basis. Ivanti will send the collected hardware data, including serial numbers, into ServiceNow.

  3. Mapping to CI: Once the data is imported, you can map the incoming data fields (such as the hard drive serial number) to the corresponding cmdb_ci_disk field on your Configuration Items (CIs).

  4. Run Periodically Using MID Server: To automate this process, set up a schedule to run the import periodically. You can use the MID Server to facilitate secure communication between Ivanti and ServiceNow.

This solution would eliminate the need for a highly custom setup and is far less time-consuming than creating a custom solution from scratch. It would also allow you to meet your regulatory requirements more efficiently.

I would recommend considering this option as a more straightforward and manageable solution.

If you believe the solution provided has adequately addressed your query, could you please **mark it as 'Helpful'** and **'Accept it as a Solution'**? This will help other community members who might have the same question find the answer more easily.

Thank you for your consideration.
