Creating Custom Patterns for Discovery

Thank you in advance for reading this!

We are in the process of switching from Probes to Patterns for Discovery. I have a few new custom patterns that I have created to pull BIOS information for Linux/Windows and Solaris servers. My question is on how to have the main patterns call these new patterns I have created. I want to avoid modifying any out of box patterns in fear that future upgrades will skip them. I'm not sure if this would happen, but, it could potentially cause a maintenance headache that I'd like to avoid.

Example:
I have created a "Shared Library" Linux pattern for a shell script to be run from the midserver which retrieves BIOS information for the remote CI. After retrieving this, it is updated in the CMDB. This pattern works correct when I include it in the "Linux Server" out of box pattern. (the CI is updated with the BIOS info I want)

Is there a different method to have discovery call my custom pattern, other than including it in the out of box pattern? Will upgrades skip these patterns after I touch them?

Thank you again,
Matthew

Side note, our version of SN is New York Patch 7

I would suggest putting them in the extension section so you continue to get OOB updates in the identification section.

Thank you much Doug! Also, big thanks for putting together the probe to pattern migration video on youtube, that was really helpful!
