Discovery Experience with IBM Storage

Hi - Has anyone successfully used (CIM) discovery against the following SAN gear? Any experiences to share?

  • IBM V7000
  • IBM XIV
  • IBM SVC
  • IBM Flash 840

One big difference in our environments is that I don't have access to any IBM storage...   Adding the storageVirtualizer classifier has worked for a couple of customers.   Let me know what happens when you modify the payload length, but if that doesn't work you might have to file an incident.

I modified the payload length.



Now i receive in ECC queue: The <a href='discovery_sensor.do?sys_id=3101674e0f1f7904bf51059ce1050eb2'>sensor</a>'s major version = 1 while its <a href='discovery_probes.do?sys_id=null'>related probe</a>'s major version =



In Queue-CimProbe i have also a payload.txt of ~ 7.4 MB who it's attached... Any idea what I can try from ServiceNow level ?




I've encountered that error before...same error referring to different version of sensor and probe...but the error was legitimate to the problem as it shows that the major version of Windows users y groups Probe and its sensor is different



We fix the issues: by re-do both the Probe and sensors and delete the old ones. But in this case booth Probe and Sensor's major version it's the same...



Next action: re-creation of SMI-Storage Server probe...




Any ServiceNow technical people here ? At this point any suggestion will be welcome and/or crucial.

    We have 6 x SVC Clusters.



1. 5564 volumes (svc-cluster01)


2. 209 volumes (svc-cluster02)


3. 2459 volumes (svc-cluster03)


4. 4163 volumes (svc-cluster04)


5. 762 volumes (svc-cluster05)


6. Lab - not discovered yet...

Let's say the BIG Problem who it's described up it's "partial" solved. Part of the issues was "sensors" and "probes" as they indicated in ECC queue:

I re-create sensors/probes and inactivate the "old ones". The result was the same.


I re-create sensors/probes and deleted the "old one". Somehow discovery has been run this time ( somehow in the process of "upgrade" from Eurika to Fuji - something inside probes/sensors has been corrupted... )




Now the fun begins. Are you prepared ?

Somehow, after sensors re-creation Discovery it's able to move forward a little bit, been able to run 26 jobs out of 26.


I run discovery on multiple clusters (different no. of volume - and what i am writing below it's from svc-cluster02 (209 volumes), but i can see   the same errors on all the clusters described up, from 1 to 5...



In ECC Queue i have below discovery runs:


However: CimProbe/SMI Storage Server_New give the error:

I don't know why autentification fails as i use superuser account / password. The account it's valid, as can discover a part of stuff inside SVC.


If i go to CMDB CI i can see has been discovered:


Some Storage volumes, discovered by WBEM Service, and Some Storage Pools.


The storage volumes are discovered via SVC but stand on another storage array: IBM 840 Flash who are virtualized within SVC, but the others arrays volumes like: XIV (Gen2 and 3), EMC (DMX, V-MAX, VNX2 who are managed by the same SVC Cluster are not discovered.

As we have in enviroment also IBM Storwize V3700 / IBM Flash 840 it's almost the same story for them also...



Have any ideea what i can try next ?

For IBM Storwize V3700 i have in ECC Queue 212 input/output lines, 211 Ok and the same error on CimProbe/SMI-Storage Server_NEW, who have below error string: CIM Sensor error: CIM query `poolVolumes` not found in CIM Probe results.

Hi Marius,



I have followed your instructions and used local credentials to try and discover XIV Gen 2 & Gen 3.



Unfortunately it's classified as WBEM service but nothing else.



Do you have any pointers on how I can resolve this?
