Hi everyone,
We're running into some challenges with GCP Discovery and Tag-Based Service Mapping in our environment and wanted to check if anyone else has faced something similar.
What's happening:
Our OOB GCP Discovery patterns are only pulling Labels from GCP. However, our GCP teams have moved to using Resource Manager Tags instead. Because the patterns don’t fetch these tags, we’re not consistently getting the required data into cmdb_key_value (like app, env, business_application, etc.).
As a result, our Tag-Based Service Family is generating Service Candidates inconsistently for GCP Cloud Service Accounts and projects.
Quick context:
- GCP has clearly moved to Tags and isn’t going back to Labels.
- We’ve tried some workarounds on our side (custom Business Rules and backfill scripts), but these don’t feel like a long-term solution.
- We’re also hesitant to directly modify the OOB patterns because of upgrade and maintenance concerns.
What we’re looking for:
We wanted to check two things:
- Is there any recommended or supported way in the current release to discover GCP Tags (Resource Manager / Effective Tags) through Discovery patterns or the Service Graph Connector?
- Has anyone worked with ServiceNow on getting native support added for GCP Tags in the Discovery patterns?
This is starting to impact our ability to properly use Tag-Based Service Mapping for our GCP workloads. We’ve discussed this internally and are now looking for guidance from the community or product team.
Any suggestions, experiences, or pointers would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!
