When you add the Activity to a Workflow, then you can add the output to other Activities from the Data tab on the right side of the screen.

Nathan,
The Data tab does not make sense in the context of an individual Activity. It is concerned with data flow through a Workflow, not what is happening in an Activity. When you view a Workflow, what displays in the Data tab varies based on the Workflow Inputs and Activities you have in the workflow. As for dragging and dropping the values, it depends on the field type in the Activity's properties as to whether you can do this. For example, the script field does not allow for this.
If you are editing an Activity definition in the Activity Designer, you see that message on the Data tab that you describe.
I'm not sure where you are seeing the incorrect view pop up. In my years working with Orchestration and training people in Orchestration and Workflow, I have not seen the form load with an incorrect view and cause issues. Where are you seeing this and does it keep switching back? Perhaps someone mistakenly changed the default view in your instance?
Ben
