Has anyone successfully discovered IBM VIO Servers?

Hi All,

I am trying to discover the IBM VIO Servers but can't seem to get past the shell not working properly. VIO servers us a KRSH shell and the existing Linux Server & AIX Server Patterns dont work.

Has anyone discovered these servers? did you have to create your own pattern and ci classification?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

I don't know if this has been tested internally, i don't see a callout for IBM VIOS through regular ssh-access based discovery in the docs so far.

However, you can discover all the components of IBM virtualization (including VIOS) through the new HMC discovery pattern. Take a look at https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/kingston-it-operations-management/page/product/service-mapping/re...

of course, this means you need to HMC access.

Hi Ram,

I have discovered the HMC's & Associated frames using the new IBM HMC discovery pattern release last week.

You are correct this does give you VIO's, however this marks them as virtual instances instead of servers. what I am trying to achieve is having them in the server table, treated like any other AIX or Linux server in the CMDB instead of like a VMWare Instance.

I don't think there is an existing pattern that will discover the VIO's on their own, which is why I was reaching out to see if anyone else has had a go at creating their own ci classification and discovery pattern for the VIOS.

The IBM HMC Pattern is a great starting point for anyone with a IBM Virtualization environment.

ok that's a good point. VIOS is not like a regular LPAR instance and has to be treated differently. Can you log an ER for this?

Ram

I may have to log an ER, I was hoping the community may be able to help before i go down that path. Thank you for your suggestion.
