Hi All,
I am trying to discover the IBM VIO Servers but can't seem to get past the shell not working properly. VIO servers us a KRSH shell and the existing Linux Server & AIX Server Patterns dont work.
Has anyone discovered these servers? did you have to create your own pattern and ci classification?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards

hi,
HMC discovery is a part of the solution, discovery of the LPAR machines individually is also required. when you complete discovery on the lpar, you should have a record in the AIX table, with an attribute called "isVirtual" which lets you know this is an lpar. that should give you what you're looking for.
also you will have a relation between the aix host and the lpar instance that represents it.

Hi Daniel,
VIO's don't get discovered using the AIX pattern which means they don't live in the Server Table, they live in a virtual instance table. VIO's run a different type of shell KRSH which the AIX pattern is not setup for.
As I mentioned above the HMC pattern will discover them, but not as a "server" HMC discovery is very similar to vCenter discovery. it will find all the servers but they go into a virtual machine instance table not the windows or linux server tables.
The only things that are placed in the Server table using the HMC pattern are the HMC's themselves and the Frames.
I am looking for a way of discovering the VIO's using the KRSH shell and placing them in the Server table.
Will I need:
- New CI Classifier in Class Manager?
- New Discovery Pattern?
Any assistance you may be able to provide, would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Nic

Hi Nic, I know this is an old thread. I'm also faced with this issue too - the krsh apparently doesn't support sudo user, and can be set to root however the AIX folk are concerned about security and IBM Supportability giving a discovery user root priviliges.
How did you go with this, you mentioned raising an ER, do you have any details on the ER - I'll give it a thumbs up along with some of my other colleagues to get the count on it a boost.
Alternatively, did you create an extension pattern to the AIX pattern for this?
Lookinging forward to your reply.

Hello Ram
We are using the San Diego version of servicenow.
We configured the access to IBM HMC, they are discovered by discovery (except the model ID which stays empty).
But the VIOs are NOT discovered through the HMC, they are NOT discovered either using a standard user on the VIO,.
The root user seems to be mandatory but this is refused by security and to maintain IBM support on the VIO.
Any idea on how to go further ?
Regards
