Hello Folks,
I am trying to setup some granular rules and tasks to be specific in what details are populated in em_event, em_alert and incident tables. I cannot figure out how to create copies of the rules or templates, then make changes and save with a different name.
For example, If i define a task template for, e.g. source is PRTG, then I can specify all the fields I want to for PRTG related incidents. next I want to add Source is PRTG and node name is SQL-Server01, so I can change the assignment group or some other field in the Incident.
Right now, I am starting out with a blank task template and re-doing all the work I did in the 1st Task template, then adding in more specific info to match node name. I was thinking there has to be a way I can export this to XML or some other format, rename it and upload it, so all I have to do is change or add new information.
I tried exporting to XML, and renaming the name, but that just renamed my original task template.
Can someone point me to a wiki or a write up if this is possible?
I am looking specifically for task templates, event rules and alert rules, since I was thinking of writing granular event and alert rules but want to see what is available to copy or duplicate them so I am not redoing the same things over and over just to add some additional level of specific information.
Thanks in advance
Dan

Hi Dan
Are Task Templates accessed through System Definition > Templates? If so then I think you should check your UI actions (name: Insert and Stay | Table: Application File [sys_metadata]) and make sure it is not inactive.
Thanks

Hi Dan
If you take the existing template and modify the fields and name as required, can you then click on the grey bar and choose 'Insert and Stay'?
Hope this helps

Hello Matt,
Thanks! for such a quick response. That works! for all alert and event rules. Duplicating alert and event rules will certainly help me a lot.
I think the only remaining question is for the task templates. Is there a way to duplicate or copy task templates in a similar fashion.?
I tried alert rules and was able to duplicate using the "insert and stay" but I did not see a similar option for task templates for creating incidents.
Thanks!
Dan

Hello Matt,
Thanks for your response. I earlier posted I could not find the menu item for Insert and stay. I must be going blind, as I was able to see the menu item, clear as day, when I clicked on the Left Menu block.
I tested and I was able to make multiple copies of the task templates I want to fine tune.
Thanks! again. Marking this resolved with your correct answer.
best regards,
Dan
