How Model number is populated in servicenow

Hello,

I want to understand How Model number is Populated or updated for a product record in cmdb_hardware_product_model table. 

There is a case where in the product record(cmdb_hardware_product_model) the model number is wrong and when it is fixed via import again when the discovery runs the record gets populated with wrong model number.
