Ignore serial number attribute in VMware Probes

Hi - 

When ESX servers get discovered during vCenter discovery one of the probes populates the Serial Number field on the ESX server. These are generally incorrect (start with VC###), and we want to manually populate them using our deployment software. Discovery keeps overwriting the manual entries with the discovered value. 

What is the best way to tell the probes to ignore, i.e. not insert/update, the serial number attribute?

I do not see how you can prevent discovery from updating an attribute using reconciliation rules. If you have a specific code/example, please provide.
