Inclusion connection failing with "Failed to recognize application. See the Discovery Pattern Log.."

I've got a curious problem with a service mapping activity. I've pretty much followed the Advanced Sim Course for Service Mapping to double-check my work and I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on.

I have essentially created a custom application, AEM Dispatcher, which represents a component of Adobe Experience Manager. It is a module that runs within Apache HTTP web server. The out-the-box "Apache on Unix OS" pattern has been extended to spot the presence of some specific files and, if so, start the discovery pattern for AEM Dispatcher.

I've created a new child class from Application (AEM Dispatcher) and I've extended the inclusion endpoint class with a specific one for it. Set up all the rules, criterion attributes, relationships, extended the form layout and then created a discovery pattern for the AEM Dispatcher, with the appropriate entry point type.

Back in the Apache pattern, I then try to create a connection to it on discovery. But when running discovery on the service map, I see green ticks through the individual steps of the pattern, but the top-level entry in the discovery tree for that pattern is the red "P" icon, and the service mapping is failing to include the Dispatcher CI. But there is NO useful error descriptions whatsoever and if I step-debug, I can't see anything of any concern.

Is there anywhere else log-wise I can be looking to understand why this is failing? Nothing in the discovery logs is of any use, it all shows fine!
