Is there any way to forward approvals?

In our workflow we send the approval step to the requested users manager, and if this is not known, we use a default approver. This helps us identify deficiencies in the data, which can be rectified, but is there anyway, that this default user has the ability to forward the approval to the correct person?

By default there is no automated functionality of doing this. You can give extra privileges to the default approver so he can change the approver of the given task (RITM, CHG,...) manually.

Maybe approval_admin role.

Or you can give a UI to the default approver to do this.

You also can use delegation - but this needs to be setup prior the approval email is sent so the delegate also receives it.

If the delegate is checking approvals within the instance the delegation is also effective if it is setup after the approval was requested.

Also if the initial approver forwards the email after it was requested it will also work.

Delegation will lead to delegation of all the approvals currently assigned to the default approver. In the above case, the delegation needs to be done only for that one approval which is wrongly assigned. In such case, the approver field will have to be updated on the Approval record.

Well, that will be tricky and will depend also on the internal process.

Depending on how often this happens it could be done by the admin or as you suggested create a new dedicated role for that and assign it to the manager.

It could be tied to specific conditions like you need to have the role and be the manager of the referenced CI of the task record the approval is for.
