Manager field is not syncing from ldap

We have ldap integration setup and the manager field for some of the users is not populating. Upon investigation i have found that manager field in source table is empty which means data is not even coming from ldap for some users. What could be the issue? some users are fine while on others we have this issue. Where to look at to troubleshoot this issue? is it on the Snow side or on the AD side?
