Mid server cluster(Failover, load balancing)

Anupam Thomas

Hi,
I am trying to implement the Mid server clustering - failover and load balancing does anyone have some materials like ppts on clustering, FAQs related to the same, and challenges faced while implementing mid server clustering - failover and load balancing, and some information on how to setup capabilities of a mid server.

Note: I have already referred the SNOW docs looking for anything other than docs.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Anupam,

You can setup capabilities of MID server, depends on what type of devices you want to discover using this MID server cluster.

1.There are two types of MID server cluster LoadBalancer is basically used for:-

Discovery can collect data about network routers, switches, and applications.

Discovery supports data collection from the following applications and hardware:
  • A10
  • Apache mod_jk and Apache mod_proxy
  • Big-IP F5 Traffic Manager
  • Cisco
  • Citrix NetScaler
  • HAProxy
  • NGINX
  • Alteon
  • ACE
  • Radware

2. Failover type is not used for load balancing MID Servers in a fail-over cluster work independently

When a MID Server fails, the MID Server Cluster Management business rule selects the highest available MID Server in the order to take over the work. The selected MID Server checks the ECC Queue and starts with jobs that are either Processing or Ready.

Its totally depends on your environment, which type of MID server cluster do you want to use.

Hope this will helps.

Kindly mark an answer as correct and helpful if it will resolve your query.

HI,

No document but yes i have some experience which i can share:

1) All MID server should have same capabilities so that they can support clustering.

2) All firewall rules on network should be configured for all clustered MID Servers.

3) Credentials in servicenow has a MID server field. So if you have selected any mid server in cluster make sure you have all MID servers there or simply say all mid servers.

4) On Scheduled same thing. Point schedules to use Clusters

Some common things which we may miss.

Thanks,
Ashutosh

Is it possible to create a web server extension on a cluster ? We want an external tool to send data to ServiceNow via a MID Server Cluster ? If yes, how we can achieve this ?
