Remote Location Discovery is taking too much time

We are running discovery to get the Configuration items (Computers, Network Gear, Servers) from our remote networks (some networks have up to 500 devices) in Australia using a Mid Server which is located in Houston (USA). The discovery is taking more time (46 Minutes) than we had anticipated. So we are looking on how to reduce the run time. All the credentials are being used from the credentials table of servicenow .

Is there any best practices on where the mid server should be located to reduce the time.

Does relocating the Mid-server to a closer location reduce the Discovery time?

Any other best practice that can be used to reduce the discovery run time.

I can't remember where it is documented, but the MIDs should have a fast connection speed, be physically close to the discovered devices, preferably be one in each those data centers. Also, they should of course be set up following the recommended system requirements.
